Dear Visitors,
Since the early 2000s, the Sehwa Art and Culture Foundation, under the Taekwang Group, has been dedicated to installing public art in downtown Seoul and supporting various cultural and artistic initiatives. In 2017, we expanded the Ilju & Sunhwa Gallery into the Sehwa Museum of Art.
The name “Sehwa (世和)” embodies the idea of peace and harmony among all people, reflecting the values of the late Chairman Lee Im-young, founder of Taekwang Group, and his wife, the late Chairwoman Lee Sun-ae, who were committed to education and social contribution. With this spirit, the Sehwa Museum of Art aims to create a space for cultural exchange and unity through art, sharing the richness of the arts with the public.
Located amidst the bustling high-rises and crowds of Gwanghwamun, the Sehwa Museum of Art strives to be an open museum where visitors can enjoy remarkable works of art. The sculpture “Hammering Man,” which tirelessly works in front of the Heungkuk Life Building, represents the many workers of Gwanghwamun and has become a familiar presence to many. The Sehwa Museum of Art aims to introduce diverse and engaging art that allows people to easily enjoy art without straying far from their busy daily lives.
We will continuously hold curated exhibitions that explore the trends in contemporary art, supported by a spacious exhibition area and state-of-the-art facilities. In particular, we remain committed to supporting emerging artists, a practice we have maintained since 2010. Additionally, we will develop and operate a variety of educational programs that can engage and delight people of all ages.
In the future, the Sehwa Museum of Art will strive to embody the spirit of “Sehwa,” working towards a harmonious and peaceful world through art.
Director, Sehwa Museum of Art
