SEHWA MUSEUM OF ART
Open Museum in the Heart of the City
Ilju & Sunhwa Gallery has been revitalized into Sehwa Museum of Art. Sehwa Museum aims to be an open museum where life and art communicate, serving as a dynamic cultural hub in the city. The Gwanghwamun area, where high-rise buildings, palaces, and Cheonggyecheon stream coexist, is a place where various cultural values intersect between tradition and the future. Here, Sehwa Museum of Art seeks to introduce art that can be enjoyed comfortably and closely in everyday life, rather than art that feels unfamiliar and distant.
With installations like Jonathan Borofsky’s Hammering Man, a landmark in Gwanghwamun, and Kang Ik-joong’s Beautiful Landscape, the Sehwa Art and Culture Foundation has worked to display a variety of collections in public spaces, making it easier for the public to appreciate art. Through Sehwa Museum, we aim to present the diverse currents of contemporary art from a fresh perspective.
We will strive to promote contemporary cultural and artistic appreciation both domestically and internationally through exchange exhibitions with local and foreign artists, support for emerging artists, and various themed exhibitions. We look forward to meeting all of you who love culture and art at Sehwa Museum of Art, a place where art can be shared in the heart of the city.
ILJU & SEONHWA GALLERY
Taekwang Group began hosting various contemporary art exhibitions as part of its cultural and artistic sponsorship efforts in 2007. In March 2010, it officially opened Ilju & Sunhwa Gallery, which made a significant impact on the domestic art scene by consistently holding exchange exhibitions with domestic and international artists, collaborative exhibitions with other institutions, and media exhibitions until January 2016.
In particular, the gallery aimed to continue Taekwang Group’s commitment to cultural and artistic sharing by regularly showcasing exhibitions that support emerging and promising young artists.
The ‘Sehwa Archive’ allows you to explore the past exhibitions and activities of the Sehwa Art and Culture Foundation in detail. Since the opening of Sehwa Museum of Art in 2017, Ilju & Sunhwa Gallery has continued its cultural and artistic sharing activities through exhibition support at Sehwa Museum of Art.
