Seung-nam Hong (1955~ ) has brought cold metallic materials to life by integrating them into a simple and geometric form. Although his art pieces are characterized as coldness and minimalism, resulting from extreme simplicity, he makes as much of an effort as a master craftsman does into cutting and welding materials to ensure their smooth finishes for his art works. ‘Existence’ a theme started from 1994, is expressed in the combination of circles and quadrangles. His work, mixed with the two basic figures, offers a viewpoint on abstract thinking to the audience through general concepts, existing in everyday life, which are expressed via geometric simplicity. Moreover, his art piece holds significance in that it exists in a specific space. The formation of circles and quadrangles in his work provides a chance for you to see a familiar place you pass by every day from a different perspective.
