Sean Scully (b. 1945) works between New York, Barcelona, and Munich, and was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1989 and 1993. Glass Stack 2, made of Murano glass, is distinguished by its rich colors. Scully often uses stripes, bands, lines, and grids to create rhythm in his works. He once remarked that he wishes to “continually reinvent different combinations, qualities, and relationships, like the musical rhythms of life.” Built through the repetitive act of “stacking,” this work reveals a poetic sense of form. We invite you to experience Glass Stack 2 as an embodiment of the artist’s conviction that creating something out of nothing is always fascinating.
