Connecting Hearts: Kintsugi Classroom

2023. 6. 27. Tuesday / 6. 28. Wednesday

3F Lounge, Sehwa Museum of Art

Sehwa Museum of Art is launching the Open Museum in the City online content project. This program, inspired by Ik-Joong KANG’s artwork, offers the Kani-Kintsugi Workshop, where participants can restore broken pottery and give it a new life for everyday use. Join Sumi to mend and heal broken vessels while enjoying a meaningful experience.

“The deliberate act of restoring something revives emotional connections and heals the self.”
— Kunio Nakamura, Kintsugi Notebook

Kintsugi is a traditional lacquer craft technique that uses gold and silver to embellish the cracks and fractures of broken ceramics. It involves carefully joining the broken pieces with lacquer, completing the restoration with gold or silver decoration.

Bring your cherished but broken or cracked pottery and repair it using a simple Kani-Kintsugi method. The workshop will introduce easy techniques using synthetic lacquer and resin, finishing with Keshi-Fun pure gold detailing.

Materials Required

One broken vessel or two cracked/chipped vessels (Participants must bring their own materials. Note that items cannot be wrapped for transport after the session and must be carried home by hand.)
