Julian Opie (1958- ) is a pop artist and a member of ‘yBa (young British artists),’ which emerged in end-1980s and led the Renaissance of British contemporary art. He usually modeled after real people including his acquaintances, people whom he coincidentally encountered, and public figures. In his artwork, physical traits of the model are simplified into several lines. In this way, the artist tries to find out how the personality and characteristics of a figure are received in the complex modern society of today. This work features a walking figure in moving LED images and the shape of the figure is also simplified into several lines. The human figure expressed by Julian Opie symbolizes the anonymity of modern people living in the complex city. The figure in this work is Sara, but at the same time, it can be me or anyone among the crowd whom I passed by.
